thanks. you think you can elaborate on those senior people? These are all engineering folks right? Any pattern you seen in them that would lead you to believe the adcom chose them? Were these the ones who had to re-apply?
well, my point was that it is possible to get in without having direct reports...
i know 3 folks from my company who got into Haas... even though there is no way I could have seen their application, but one of them had a work experience of 10 years in the industry and could have showed how he led a team of new engineers to deliver the feature he was responsible for...
the other one again had similar work experience... i am pretty certain none of them had any direct reports... bcoz in my company, the technical folks are responsible for technical projects and people management is left up to the managers...
the 3rd person i know did not have more than 5 years of experience but was moving up fast in the team she was in...
based on these 3, i don't think u can generalize anything to fit all... but from what i felt after talking to current students during that visitation day... i don't think many of them have any direct reports...
they have influence and have been instrumental in the success of their organizations... i think its just about how you have portrayed yourself infront of the adcoms... assuming you meet all the basic criteria...
just to add... the 1st and the 3rd folks got in after being WL'ed the 1st year...
