Anyone have a feel for how much emphasis INSEAD places on the essays?

I have above average GMAT and work experience etc (i think), however I wasn't happy with my essays - didn't get enough time to spend on them and had to go for R1

very concerned!

You forgot to mention you also have above average modesty! :-D
All kidding aside, I don't want to discourage you, but I'd rather have average GMAT and WE with killer essays than great stats and poor essays. Unless, of course, your gmat and we are not just above average, but totally stellar. Is that the case?
I believe great essays really show how much you care about the school, and how much effort you've put into it. But then again, you might think your essays are not good enough, but the AdCom might think they are good enough. So, no need to worry, there's pretty much nothing you can do now.
Quick question, though: Why did you HAVE to apply R1? Round 2 might have ginen you more time no perfect your essays.
Best of luck, sorry about the joke!

:)

I tend to agree with you on the importance of essays, which is why I'm so concerned. Some of them were ok, but the 'candid description' essay fell well short.....I'm sure everyone will agree that you needed to dedicate time to that one to make it good

my gmat and extra curriculars are ok but not stellar by any means (730 + well travelled, worked abroad etc). Definitely wont be competing with those who have cured diseases etc!

I had to go for R1 as I have some other apps going for Sep 13 entry, need the INSEAD decision asap

Will just have to see....

Hi,

Is there a format for the 3rd recommendation?

Hi dylanc,

There is no format for the 3rd recommendation. It can be a simple letter (the usual recommendation you get) and does not have to follow the format of the other 2 recommendations.

Once you have submitted your application, you can upload supporting documents (transcripts, GMAT unofficial scan, passport-size photo, ...) and the 3rd recommendation. The recommendation should be in PDF file format (.doc, .jpg, .tiff and a few other file formats are supported as well).
