Just a quick question:

I had requested an off-campus interview and was excited to get an alumnus in my preferred post MBA industry. Anyway, they were not available so I spoke with Admissions and they said they were looking for another alumnus. Now two days later they simply cancel my interview letting me know that this won't impact my application in any way.
I'm not really sure what to make of this, is this just very normal or should one be worried?
After all I was looking forward to finding out a few things about Kellogg first hand - that doesn't happen and that's fine but I think it is irritating that a decision is now made based on paper only...
Anyone in a similar situation here?

I think you need not worry. I interviewed with an alum last week and he told me that the application is a very important aspect of admissions. He has been interviewing ever since he graduated 3 years ago and had several cases where he strongly recommended candidates and they didnt get in while those candidates that he was neutral about, got through. Since they lay so much of weight on the essays, it is in fact good that you will have to go through the hassle of interviewing (phone) only when you are shortlisted. Ofcourse, if you were confident of blowing the interviewer's mind off, I can see your concern. :)

Submitted for R3, and interviewed on campus last Friday with 2nd year MBA student. Let's see what happens...seems like Kellogg really cares about how you fit...I was lucky enough to go on the same weekend as "Day at Kellogg" aka "DAK"....so I got to meet a bunch of current students and even some of the admitted students (most of them were still deciding between Kellogg and other schools such as Sloan, Wharton, and Booth).

Well...not sure. I think it certainly helps with an application if one gets recommended. And there would have been chance for bombing an interview with an alumna/us but I think chances are slim. To me this is more of a personal fit interview and I think I would have liked the chance to raise my questions with someone who went through the programme already rather than speaking with Admission.

However, I'll just wait and see but kudos for your input!

I received an interview waiver because of lack of an alum in my area. Do they ask people for a last minute Skype interview if they're considering admitting you? So if I don't get asked, it means that I'll be getting a "No"? Or do they actually admit people without an interview at all?

Mine was waived as well. I am pretty sure that no one would be admitted without an interview. From the research that I've done, it seems that if they like your written app, they will set up a phone interview. However, I feel that this window in rapidly closing if it hasn't already. :(

Ugh this sucks. I'm re-taking the GRE end of May, but Kellogg is not going to look at that score, since they will be rendering decisions by May 15th, and they're not willing to "hold" my decision either. Worst part is, Kellogg does NOT have a wait list for R3, so it's either accept or deny...and they'll be weighing it based on my current scores. I did have a strong interview though. Let's see what happens....all I've been getting are wait-lists and dings so maybe I'll finally get a yes.

They interview everyone so your chances are still 28-31%.

Depends.

Was your interview initially waived followed by an interview request? If that is the case and your interview went well then I'd say you have a solid chance of making the cut.

If your interview was never waived then it is impossible to know your chances without your profile.

Good luck to you either way.

The schools I've been wait-listed at want to see a higher score in either GRE or GMAT and since I absolutely hated the GMAT and GRE was a bit easier for me, I am re-taking it. I know i'll do better, but its whether or not the 3rd round schools will consider it (so far, only NYU has been nice enough to delay the review of my application until after my test date).

Does Kellogg have a rolling admissions process for the FT MBA or will they only let you know on the decision deadline?

Based on the past posts, they only let you know by the deadline, with the exception of a few cases, of people who got a call the day before the decision.
