Hi

Appreciate if you can have a look at the below profile:


Target Year for MBA: 2014-15 batch
Target GMAT score: 750

Age: 23, Indian, Female

Academics -
Class X: 76%
Class XII: 70%
Did my engineering from Delhi from an A grade university (University Among top 15 in India)
Engineering CGPA: 7.8/10 (Among top 5 in class, topped final semester with CGPA of 8.8/10 )

Work Experience –

Slightly more than 2 years with Samsung as Software Developer.
• Currently interacting with developers from all over the world in solving their technical queries.
• Debugging their code.
• Giving technical training to freshers, mentoring them.
• Already developed applications .

My profile is more of marketing cum technical analyst where we interact with developers from all over the world and troubleshoot their problems.

Extra Curricular-

• Won the first prize from Defense Ministry of India fro a cultural dance at the Republic Day Parade.
• Won many certificates in dance competitions.
• Participated in many debates and literary competitions in college

I can get glowing recommendations from my manager and HR.
Working with an NGO but I am taking care of financial needs of my maid’s daughter, I teach her as well , I made her parents understand the need of education in her life she will be joining college shortly.


Aiming for Harvard , Stanford, fuqua , insead and other renowned schools in top 15..
Does less experience will hamper my chances at the above mentioned colleges as i am aiming for R-2?:(

Hey there Jupiter!

Thanks for dropping by. First of all congratulations on your fantastic GMAT! Looking through your profile I think you may be overreaching a bit, and I think that you could be more realistic about your chances. HBS and Stanford are going to be very long shots... Yes, you have a great GMAT, but you don't necessarily come from their preferred school (IIT), their preferred industries, or their preferred employers. Other schools in the Top 20 should be open to you, and you should be more competitive at them (depends which and how). But still with you lack of experience, and so-so volunteer work, I think even Top 10 will be a bit of a stretch.

I think the wisest for you would be to build a strategy with more realistic school list... so one or maybe two "dream schools" (like maybe Haas, and Duke from Top 10) two-three "competitive schools" (Tepper, Anderson, Marshal), and then one or two safe schools.

If you are doing well at work, and are in no big rush, I'd even suggest you to wait one more year, to gain more experience, and to give yourself the chance to strengthen your volunteer work.

Which NGO? And what exactly did you do? Did you have any NGO leadership? Or big achievements that are notable?

I have done everything from teaching the kids to collecting funds and now my company had a tie up with that NGO.
I have helped them in whatever little way i could do by teaching them ,funding some of them and i feel proud that some of them will be joining college this year...


P.S - I have also worked with my uncle while being in college.So if that experience counts i can include that as well?

That's great stuff, and you should definitely be using that for a story as you apply. As for your work with your uncle, it could count. It depends what you did, whether it was after university, and how big/important his firm is.

I supported him while being in the final year , i will say for one year .I used to look do accounts and managing resources.
His firm is not very big ,barely 100 people.

Please let me know does it even counts??

Well, most B-Schools only ask for POST-Graduate work, so I think you can leave it out of the main work section, but if there is a section for other/part-time work in the application, then you could include it.
