Is rs = rx − 2 ?

Is \(rs = rx-2\)? --> is \(r(x-s)=2\)?

(1) r is an odd number. Not sufficient: consider r=1 and x-s=2 AND r=1 and x-s=3.

(2) x = s + 2 -->\(x-s=2\) --> the question becomes: is \(r=1\)? We don't know that. Not sufficient.

(1)+(2) From (2) the question became: is \(r=1\)? and (1) says that r=odd, but we don't know whether it's 1 or any other odd number. Not sufficient.

Answer: E.

rs = rx − 2 can be restated as
r(x-s) = 2 -----(1)

Statement 1
r is odd, Still we don't know the value of (x-s).
Thus Insufficient

Statement 2
This is very tempting option for many of us.
(x-s)=2.
we don't know the value of r.
Thus Insufficient

Statement 1& 2
r= odd (can take any odd value 1, 3, 5 etc)
(x-s)=2.
r(x-s) will equal 2 only if r=1. But we don't know value of r for sure
Thus Insufficient

almost tricked me...
rs=rx-2?
2=rx-rs?
2=r(x-s)?

1. r is odd.
if r=1 and r-s =2 then yes.
if r=3 and r-s=2, then no.
A and D out.

2. x=s+2
x-s=2.
if r=1 then yes, if r=3 then no.
B is out.

1+2
we know x-s = 2. and we need to make sure that r is 1. since we cannot clearly say that r=1, C is out and the answer is E.
