1/B. American Heart Association researchers have calculated that a person in the United States should experience a coronary event once in every 26 seconds.

Is there anything else wrong with the sentence, except the use of once. ?

hi I know the question is discussed a lot of times.
But i have a doubt, i found that its not covered on any of the forums.

the doubt is Option D Uses the word ever as a part of subject in the clause...so why is the verb Experience (Plural verb used)..........
Pls address my doubt

@Archit143, I have highlighted subject, verb and object.

I didn't get which plural verb you mentioned.
every 26 seconds a person in the United States will experience a coronary event

Hi,

The subordinate clause subject "every....." is a singular clause subject thus using singular verb "will experience" in future tense

Note:
Every player will experience (future)
Every player experiences (present)

Hope this helps :)

Do we have plural form "Will experience"...If yes than can you pls write...I was thinking that since "Experience" is plural so "will experience" is also plural.

Present
I experience
you experience
he experiences
we experience
you experience
they experience

Past
I experienced
you experienced
he experienced
we experienced
you experienced
they experienced

Future
I will experience
you will experience
he will experience
we will experience
you will experience
they will experience

Evidently there is no plural form. Experience is a non-countable noun. However, it can be used in both plural and singular form, unlike most non-count nouns:

I have a lot of experience
I have a lot of experiences

Why the correct answer is not E?Since the question uses the word "should" and E also uses the same word. Answer D uses the word "will", is changing the meaning of the sentence, making it too obvious. Isn't it? Please help!!! :?
Thanks,
Arka

I opted for E instead of D to go with the verb choice in the original stem "should" instead of "E"

We'd have to have more information about this research to understand the meaning behind the sentence and to be better able to judge.
Having said that, choice "D" does make more sense

Given the fact that Choice D makes more SENSE.
But the non underlined statement ends with "calculated" ....Use of this word makes the application of SHOULD more acceptable?

Use of "will" option (D) comes into the picture had the non underlined statement been predicted/estimated.

What is the flaw in the above reasoning, if there is one, kindly elucidate.

My reasoning:

Eliminate A, B, and E for "should"
"should" is not the right meaning because what we need here is something akin to making a prediction such as "will"
"You will die eventually" vs "You should die eventually"
C should be eliminated because it says "a coronary event will 'strike'" does not make sense.
You aren't struck by illnesses. You aren't struck by a heart attack. The event itself is what you experience.

should in GMAT is used to indicate "moral obligation" and not as a certainity indicator. ( may, can are used for the purpose)
