I think it means that the average GPA is a 3.4 out of a 4.0 grading scale?

Then ideally you want youR GPA to be 3.1 or above, but if you have a 3.1, you would also ideally want to have a GMAT at or above the schools average. Both the GMAT and GPA are considered when evaluating academics.
