Well I did not have a great GMAT but a decent-ish profile to be honest. I also think that last year (and the years before but I think the uncertainty in increasing every year) it was HIGHLY random.

For example: I was rejected at Johnson (after WL) and Ross but interviewed at Haas.

Someone I know who got axed by Ross, Tuck and Kellogg, got into Haas with the Dean's fellowship.

So, you never know folks: hedge your risks.

Oh it wasn't that last year. 760 is I think as good as it gets. I got that in June this year. Thank god I don't have to worry about it again. But from what I have read and seen on the forums, 740+ seems to be the sweet spot for Indians.

I was hoping for a bit more on profile in general. As in work ex, undergrad etc.

Also, can you please share what was the score when you applied last year?

Hi all.

I am planning to apply in the first round. Indian male, more than 7 years of experience as equity research analyst. Have a decent GMAT (760). Undergrad from one of the IITs in India. A decent CGPA I hope (7.1/10). Not sure how this works out in US GPA terms. Wish you guys the best!

Although I am not applying to Johnson this round, I wish you guys all the best. I was waitlisted last year and I really thought my TOC essay was one of my best last year.

Here's the chat transcript from our last week's chat with Cornell adcoms and students. Thank you all for participating in the chat and asking insightful questions.

"The essays are a piece of the application in which you have the most control. They are a great place to let your personality come through. Don’t forget to be authentic and answer the questions asked. The Table of Contents essay is your opportunity to showcase some creativity. We’ve received Youtube videos, PowerPoint documents, poems, songs, or standard Table of Contents helping us understand how Cornell MBA fits into your story." - Chelsea Hann, Assistant Director of Admissions

It could be a generic question -

How do you guys read Average GMAT scores of the current class in a school? For example, Johnson's Average GMAT is 700. Going by this number, how low a score makes someone a competent candidate?

I'm sure someone getting 700+ is for sure a competent candidate, but someone getting close to 700, say 680,690, would they be competent as well?

Also, for sure, someone who gets ~650 is in the danger zone.

How to get that delta around Average GMAT?

Unfortunately it is much trickier than that. I know for a fact that GMAT averages are used to evaluate candidates in different demographics, so what is competitive for Indians might not be for LatAm applicants.

For example (don't quote me on this and this example is purely anecdotal) - Indian GMAT averages tend to be 20-30 points more than the whole school average while LatAm averages hover around 650-680 for most top schools. So the answer really is 'it depends"!

I am thinking of applying in R2. I have a GMAT of 710. I missed R1 because I took a month time to take the GMAT again but couldn't get the score up :(
Anyone else in R2 ?

Hi souvik101990, Can you tell how much was your score with which you were waitlisted last year ? I have a 710 and a typical Indian engineer profile so just trying to evaluate my chances before I apply.
