Application Essays

Mandatory essays:

Consider a statistic or trend that shocks you. Why it is important to you and how could it be changed for the better? (Maximum 500 words)
Is there anything not covered in the application form which you would like the Admissions Committee to know about you? (Maximum 250 words)

If you are applying under the 1+1 scheme you also need to submit the following essay:

Explain why you see this as particularly beneficial for you and how it fits with your careers and personal development aims (Maximum 250 words)

Re-applicants will need to complete the essays mentioned above and another essay on the topic:

What improvements have you made in your candidacy since you last applied to the Oxford MBA? (Maximum 250 words)

When reviewing your essays the Admissions Committee will be looking for evidence of the following: Good communication skills, leadership potential, analytical skills, fit within the Oxford MBA community, among other characteristics.

I just wanted to offer some advice on the main essay topic as I know some people are racking their brain over this.

Consider this from the standpoint of values. If it is shocking to you then it's probably tripping upon some deeply felt principal.

Consider what that might be and speak from that place. Consider that they are trying to get to know you at the deepest level by understanding your values, what motivates you, and want to see if those values are a match for the Oxford Community.

To generate some ideas you might actually consider looking at successful essays for Stanford's main essay question which also speaks to values.

For the part about how you would change this, I think they are looking to assess your innovative and strategic thinking abilities. Be imaginative.

I'm hoping to apply round 1. I won't be attending the open day but I have already been for meeting at Said and was given a tour of the school.

Very unlikely in Europe. Generally most of the MBA go back to US and apply it directly there. I have not seen any US companies for recruitment. However, the local office of US companies recruits but only for the local office. For example Amazon in UK.

Hi All! Applied in 2017 R5 but was waitlisted and given and offer to enrol in 2018 instead. Didn't manage to make it off the waitlist, so I'll be starting next year!
