You have a great track record of promotion and also a passion for helping make education accessible and that can be a powerful area to explore further in essays. I think you have all that you need to give it a good shot- and so to do that be sure that you think about what MORE you can share about your passion for accessible education that is not already covered in resume and application. Hi everyone,

I would appreciate an evaluation of my profile. I am thinking of applying for Harvard R1, and I am now brainstorming for my essays.

Nationality: Filipino
Age: 26
Gender: Female
GMAT: 760 (Q51,V41,IR7,AWA6)

Academic Background:
Undergraduate degree in Science/Engineering in one of the 3 best universities in the Philippines.
Finished with a GPA of 3.53 (with Honors graduate).

Work Experience: 6 years by matriculation
After graduation, I immediately got employed to one of the biggest manufacturing companies in Japan.
I had varied work experiences as Sales Engineer, Business Specialist, Strategic Planner, and now International Sales Expert.
My job involves overseas sales and business development so I usually go on overseas business trips - the longest assignment I had was a business training for 6-months in Mexico.

International Experience:
5 years of work in Japan
6 months of business training in Mexico
Daily correspondence with customers of various nationalities
Immense love for traveling - I have checked more than 40 countries off my world travel list.
I speak 5 languages (4 of them fluently)

Extra-curricular Activities:
I teach English and Spanish on my free time.
I am an events volunteer/translator in my city's international association ( the biggest event I volunteered for was the International day in which almost 5,000 people attended the cultural event).
Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver

Post-MBA goals:
Short term, I plan to work in the consulting industry (focus on International business).
Long term, I hope to enter International Organizations such as the World Bank and UNDP with the goal of leading projects related to infrastructure development in developing countries.

Interesting profile for sure and I see i as quite competitive for HBS, depending on the strength of your essay and how you present things of course. Can any of the changes in your roles at work be classified as a promotion? If so, I would emphasize that if I were you, as that is not completely clear.

As for your extra curriculars, they are okay only, so I would not focus too much on those in my essays if I were you, even if you can mention them briefly of course.

But all in all; great profile, I see no need for improvement in the profile itself, so you should focus on how you are going to present all this to the adcom instead.

Good luck!

Strong profile. But unfortunately age and coming from an over-represented pool of applicants is not on your side.

I wouldn’t say you are an obvious choice for a Harvard candidate but I do think your profile has a lot of potential so I would certainly give it a shot if I were you! It will all come down to your essays and recommendations and how all this is presented, so you need to give that part everything that you’ve got. (Feel free to reach out if you want to know how ARINGO as an admissions consulting company can help with that part: https://aringo.com/mba-process-registration/)

Your work experience is your biggest weakness so try to think about how you can make that part a bit more impressive, preferably by examples that can be measured in some way.

Good luck!

In order to give you a full evaluation I would really need to know your final GMAT score as not everyone that expects a 760 actually gets that, so whether or not you actually get that score will make a big difference.

Also, what was the reason you transferred schools? And how confident are you in your essays/recommendations?

Basically, I need quite a bit of additional information in order to evaluate your profile properly, so feel free to elaborate here or by contacting ARINGO directly at https://aringo.com/mba-process-registration/.

I like your profile. You have a great GPA, good scores, and reasonable career transition goals. At Ivy Admissions Group, we believe that the key to getting into a top school with your background is to stand out from the crowd by painting an authentic and compelling narrative that ties through everything in your application. In accomplishing that, we employ the techniques of public narrative pioneered by the Harvard Kennedy School and used by political candidates standing for office across the country.

If your interested in hearing more about how that framework can be applied to your case, reach out to us here and we'll find a time to chat. https://www.ivyadmissionsgroup.com/contact/

Undergrad Information: Studied Economics and Business from Singapore (College ranked top 15 in the world). Did not do honors (decided work experience was more valuable). GPA is not Harvard standard (3.4/5.0), but for my university this is actually about a B average and I graduated with merit

Before that, I was selected from India (written exams and interviews, the full spectrum) at age 14 for an accelerated program from the Gov of Singapore. Moved here alone and been here since. So essentially, finished 4 years of schooling on full scholarship, ad then got offered another scholarship for college

GMAT: 720, 730 - split is heavier on verbal, Quant is 75th percentile. IR 93 percentile, Essay 6 on both

Work experience and leadership: While in school I interned with Accenture strategy consulting, and then got converted to FT. Overall with Accenture with about 6 months. After graduation I joined an FMCG Management Trainee program. Been with them for 2 years now, got promoted three times.
Placement 1 - Ops Analytics
Current: Finance

On leadership - i can talk about a few projects ive been involved in, I've also directly managed interns and analysts, Ive done evaluations and made hiring decisions for my company which is rare for someone as Junior as me. I've been an active athlete - Competitive swimmer and rower for about a decade before i stopped after college, Sports scholar for Swimming, Was also team captain

I dont think this traditionally fits into the role of "leadership", but ive self funded my life since i was 14. I started working (tutoring at about 16 and continued this into college). I was also a tutor at college while studying there. On off nights I bar-tended. Basically managed all my education while holding jobs to fund it.

Community and others: Not much on this to be honest, I was part of a pro bono consulting firm and took on a leadership role with them. but this was during college. Since then I have not had the time to do anything!

Post MBA goals: I want to get into marketing analytics in the short term. In the long term I want to either have my own business or join an early stage start up and get my hands dirty. My Econ degree didnt really teach any finance so looking forward to picking up some knowledge there. Im also very interested in the cause of women in business (being female working in corp finance in Asia really gives you a perspective lol) and would want to get involved with that while @harvard/after

Look forward to some feedback! Worried about applying to Harvard cause it seems like its all nuclear scientists and prodigy investment bankers. But I guess not applying is the only form of certain rejection :)

I definitely think you should apply, first of all, and second of all, I think you have enough unusual and unique factors to work with for admission to be a possibility, with a very, very strong essay of course. The only thing I would recommend that you work on is the post-MBA goal as that is not clear or strong enough as it is as I see it, so that needs further work. (Obviously you are welcome to contact us off the board if you would want some help with that: https://aringo.com/mba-process-registration/)

Good luck!

Background and nationality: White, UK, Male, 25 (26 at matriculation)
Undergrad Information: 3.7 GPA equivalent in Political Science at top London University (think LSE or UCL)
GMAT: 720 (Q: 47, V: 42, IR: 7, AWA: 6)
Work experience and leadership: Big Four M&A Tax (first promotion after qualifying as CA - not possible to be promoted sooner). Hold a leadership role at work amongst junior staff. Rated highly in performance reviews and have been involved with a number of high-profile client events and internal projects relating to the implications of politics (especially recent UK politics) on our services/work.
Community and others: Have an entrepreneurial background - co-founded a start-up at university and was successful as an investor whilst there. Was also a well-regarded player of a particular skill-based game that resulted in prizes and coached others in this game. Today, I continue appraising investments with my brother and also help out to manage the family business. Community-wise: more politically active than a charity person.
Post MBA goals: Investment banking in New York or London
Anything else? Applying round 2. Expect to produce strong essays and to focus on finance as groundwork towards a long-term goal as a FTSE100 CFO. This will tie into my why Harvard: year 1) learning general management fundamentals will prepare me for a lot of my long-term career goals at exec level management in industry. year 2) doing more specific electives towards my immediate post-MBA career in IB. Experience in M&A after MBA plus pre-MBA CA qualification and experience in tax and audit (i.e. compliance) makes up a large part of the CFO skill set for large companies.
