Can some expert please explain why is D wrong? And what's the meaning of a run on sentence?

The Lancastrians won The Battle of Bosworth Field,[ fought on 22 August 1485, the last significant battle of the Wars of the Roses], the civil war between the House of Lancaster and the House of York that raged across England in the latter half of the 15th century

the sentence would be :

The Lancastrians won The Battle of Bosworth Field,[ fought on 22 August 1485, the last significant battle of the Wars of the Roses], the civil war between the House of Lancaster and the House of York that raged across England in the latter half of the 15th century

read it now:

The Lancastrians won The Battle of Bosworth Field the civil war between the House of Lancaster and the House of York that raged across England in the latter half of the 15th century
there should be something in between Bosworth Field and the civil war

Other Problems: the last significant battle of the Wars of the Roses modifies what? 1985 or civil war-not a good structure sentence, So better to stay away from D
