Thank you for responses.

USC BEAR
- is it USC Marshals?

reach out to "MBA recruiters" at the consulting firms you are targeting
- good idea, I may try to. Although they will definitely mention age since it is discriminatory.

Quote:
1) Try going through multiple case consulting books, workshops, practice sessions and more, and try switching your work profile.
Hint: It will be very very difficult.
2) If you are able to accomplish the first (may take you up to 12 months of dedicated perseverance), show some good work done in a year or two, you may benefit a lot more from smaller courses (wherein you actually need support). A full fledged MBA will not help you.

Can you please elaborate more? I want do you mean a "self study"? What courses do you suggest?

When I say "consulting" I don't necessary mean "big 3". The field is large and there many small and large boutique firms (for example, parent company of my employer until recently had aviation consulting people - a couple of dozens people in total). Since I believe that the field is broad I will be able to find a job.

My main concern with executive/part-time MBA is that after I start it I will be unemployed, with large tuition bill (are loans available for those programs as well?), having issues finding another job (my specialization is very niche, plus few employers will be happy by the fact that I will have to be off a few weeks per year for the school), with very dim idea what to do with degree after graduation (although, be honest, I haven't done my homework on executive graduates employment statistics yet).

Sorry - another question. If not consulting, what will be suitable post-MBA career for older candidate?

As advised, I have signed up for Linikedin premium and sent messages to 23 "MBA Recruiters" - mostly form major consulting firms. (On the side note, Linked in morphed in a site which is trying to "nickel and dime" you - even the number of profiles you can browse is limited on cheapest premium account - had to upgrade to the next tier). So far got one reply (from Accenture):

I don't think age or experience is an issue but I think it's important to have a plan and very specific goal in mind when you get your MBA. As a recruiter it doesn't matter how much work experience as long as it seems like you are contributing to the school and community by getting involved and leading various efforts. The level of interest in a company is important and attending the events the company hosts on campus are the best way to get you that added advantage. Hope this helps!
