Q3. Is it worth trying for R3/R4 for 2018 session?
Thank you for posting here.
A1: You should apply in R1/R2 as there are limited students in each batch who would fall in your age range. You also want to go to the school where you can learn from your peers, so I recommend picking up school where average age is 28 and above.
The bigger challenge is once you graduate, moving away from Risk Management to VC or Investment Management is not going to be an easy shift as you might be expected to invest a few years at a relatively junior position, so here comes the decision point for you. I did my MBA at 33 and had almost similar background like yours.
A2: LBS and Insead are feasible with your profile and GMAT. I would also encourage you to look into schools like judge (average age 29) and oxford (average age 28) in the UK.
A3: It depends where you plan to submit your application. I would encourage R1/R2 though.
Also, I am not sure where do you want to settle post your MBA.
Does this help?
