No idea about a background check but after I paid my deposit I got an email that showed up in my junk folder telling me to enjoy my free time now because I won't have much when classes start.

Ditto. I got the same email and when I enquired further once they would start processing international student documentation they would let us know through portals.

Anyone going to the second MBA admit event planned on April 12-13?

Also, is there a https://gmatclub.com/chat group for admitted students?

I had my interview a day before. Let's see what comes out of it and then I may.
BTW, you are admitted to KFBS too, what are your plans?
Why would you withdraw from McCombs?

Wishing you the best for the result. And yes I have an admit from KFBS too but I'm going ahead with Rice. I come from Oil and Gas background and I'll be a much better fit at Rice. Coupled with the generous scholarship it wasn't a very hard decision for me.

As far as McCombs is concerned, It was always my second option behind Rice primarily due to location. I have a very good network in Houston due to my work and previous education in the US and hence I was always more interested in Jones to leverage the benefits a huge city like Houston offers.

Once I got the admit from Rice, I withdrew my application at McCombs.

Actually, I'm not on Facebook unfortunately. Would you be kind enough to either PM me or post the number of the group's admin here? I would be really thankful.

Thanks.
I too am from Oil and Gas - Canadian Oil Sands. I was in Houston (The Woodlands) for a majority of 2016 and have some network in Houston - old colleagues and of employers there.
Scholarship certainly matters.
I am still in a dilemma if I should get out of this industry or not. A difficult choice, but of course worth looking at it, in the scenario.
What is your field - enigneering, process or other side, or management / finance? I am from engineering background and have worked on both engineering and project management.

Thank you and yes I can totally understand your predicament. I also want to move out of oil and gas but want to remain in the broader energy industry. For anything to do with energy (renewables or non-renewables) Houston's the place to be hence I went ahead with Rice.

I am involved in operations in the oil and gas industry. Mostly work on unconventional shale reservoirs based out of northeastern USA. I like the challenges but looking to broaden my horizons now by transitioning into a more business oriented role.

Re: Rice MBA - Class of 2020 - Calling all admitted applicants [#permalink]
Any thoughts/ anyone currently in the Professional MBA program?

I was recently accepted, and to give you a quick background

I am 32 years old, entrepreneur in Energy & RE/ Construction (I know it is a different background than most).
I have read alot (visited the campus and heard about the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship), which is a big pull for me; especially as I try to expand my business and secure Venture Capital/ outside funding and a strong network in Houston (all my business is local/ across the state).
I saw that the acceptance rate is generally 2x (65% vs the 35-40% for full time).
Understanding that as a PMBA you will be on campus and have the same access to all the resources the full time students do, with the exception of the internship opp; what are your thoughts?
Is it worth the money, the time pursuing if my goals are to continue my current business?
I am currently (personally) debt free, I went to undergrad on a full scholarship and have been out of school for 10 or so years, graduated 2 years early from Tulane.
Appreciate the thoughts, especially those that are current Rice MBA students and their experiences.
