Re: Calling all Smeal (Penn State) Applicants: (2018 Intake) Class of 2020 [#permalink]
Hello All,

I have a 650 on GMAT (Q43 and V37). Is it advisable for me to apply to Penn-Smeal for an MBA? Below are my profile details :-

Qualification :- Bachelors of Engineering (BE) and Master of Science (MS) -- both First Class degrees, Full time from Indian Universities
Work Ex :- 4.5+ in a reputed IT firm. Working as a Senior Engineer now.

Waiting to get my TOEFL scores.

Kindly let me know if I could give a shot with this profile. Have I got any fair chances for a seat and/or a scholarship ?

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,
Kishore

Hey Kishore,

I have the same GMAT score as you and only hold a bachelor's degree. I applied for priority round and got an interview call. I cannot say if it will eventually land me a spot or not but I am keeping a positive attitude. If you are not planning to retake the GMAT, then try and write an outstanding essay and resume. Personally, I can say my resume has helped me acquire interviews with schools that I did not think I had a shot. For essay, just a suggestion but be 100% clear on what you want to do and what the school offers which will help you to achieve it. There should be no doubt in the readers mind that you might not achieve your goals after going to the school. Also, Smeal has a video essay component where you can impress the admissions team. It's up to you to convince the school why you are the perfect candidate for the school.

When did you submit your application? I think the applicants from priority deadline are still interviewing.

Hi Karanjain, congratulations! Did you have the interview on campus eventually? I interviewed on Jan-4th and the adcom mentioned that he needs two weeks for a decision so I haven't heard anything yet.

Yes, I did. I applied for the Dec 1 priority deadline and received an interview invite before the holidays. Maybe ask for an update from the admissions department.

Hey guys,

I found out that there isn't much information about the video essay here. So I decided to share the questions I remember for the future applicants.
There were 6 questions, 30 seconds to prepare and 1.5 minutes to answer each.
Though I don't remember every question word for word, I hope this can give you a sense of their video essay.

1. You are at the last stage of the interview with the company you want. Explain why you should get the job.
2. Which leader do you admire?
3. Opinion on a constructive criticism?
4. Work vs. Personal event.. what will you do?

I hope it helps!
