A. is the strict control of every variable- hold
B. being how strictly every variable is controlled -being structure is wrong here.
C. must be that every variable is strictly controlled- this changes the meaning. MUST shows that the one doesn't have a choice which isn't the intent of the sentence.
D. is that every variable is controlled strictly- hold although wordy
E. is to control, and strictly, every variable- wordy
Between A and D, ' the esssence' should refer to a noun and not a verb as it does in option A hence I would go with A.
