Hey! I just graduated from INSEAD a few months ago and can help answer these questions:

Who assesses the scholarship applications, and what do they see?

Ans: There is a scholarship committee independent of the admissions committee. They look for a combination of merit (academics, work achievements, etc), your profile's relevance to the scholarship you applied (e.g for a diversity scholarship how have you helped solve problems in a diverse world, etc) and also your financial situation. Thus, you can count it as a combination of needs based and merit based evaluation criteria.

And would a person assessing one scholarship application see my answers for the others?
Depends. There are some endowment scholarships which are looked at only by the person who is sponsoring the scholarship. For e.g. the L'Oreal Scholarship is only seen by the L'Oreal people. The scholarship committee will see all other scholarship apps. There's also this whole ceremony in the first month at INSEAD where you go and meet the people who sponsored your scholarship and you'll be surprised how many endowed scholarships there are.

Going by discussions during my visit to Fontainebleau, the scholarship committee have access to the application package submitted but the GMAT is not taken into consideration in scholarship assessments. The Diversity Scholarship essays apply to several scholarships so when the time comes to completing the scholarship forms, you won't have to fill in the forms for every single one. In fact, many simply use only the responses provided in the Diversity essays with the odd one requesting an additional essay specific to the scholarship.

The advice is to apply for no more than five and typically you only receive one of the scholarships - not necessarily the highest value but the one closest to your profile. In rare cases, a candidate may receive two scholarships.

totally depends on who the sponsor is
sometimes if it has to do with a single major donor... then they may have someone on their behalf also read and evaluate (just the scholarship essay) and the adcom may just share basic details about applicant so the reader has context..

but in most cases, the sponsor has no interest in reading and lets adcom decide... in which they have full info about everything...

it's completely okay to reuse elements across scholarship essays... if it's fin aid type of scholarship then the fin aid dept. is the one reading and deciding and the adcom will stay away from making any recommendation to avoid partiality...

Glad it was of help merlion. That's correct, in majority of cases the scholarship committee will have visibility of the application essays but that doesn't mean the scholarship essays can't be built on points already mentioned in the application, sort of an elaboration.

Nope no need to come up with new material. In fact, its good if its similar to your application essays so that its consistent with the rest of your story

I have one question related to short term and long term goals essay? What is ideal word count And what should be approach of it. I have written essay giving my goals , how my previous experience motivates me for it and how INSEAD will help me. However it is coming upto 375 words. And it is supposed to be short essay. Can anyone suggest? MBAPrepCoach?

Submitted my application in round 1. I’ve just got my official promotion at work today with salary increments specified. In my application submitted in round 1, I had written that I’d be promoted in April but I wasn’t able to provide details. Should I provide an update to my AO and if yes, what would be the best format to present this information ? Thanks.

gy88 I have to say I'm not exactly sure if they will accept you verbally communicating this but I think so. However if there's any way you can get this documented on paper so that you can send it as an attachment to AO it might have more impact and I think that's preferred.

Quick question - does INSEAD only give out interview invites on the decision notification date (Apr 20th for R1), or are they sent out on a rolling basis?

Its not on a rolling basis but they usually start giving out the invites 2-4 days before the deadline. I just graduated from INSEAD (in Dec 2017) and I remember I got my interview invite 2 days before the deadline
