Hi Lowkya,

With over 6 months before you plan to apply to Business School, you can certainly begin your GMAT studies however you choose. If you want to be efficient with all of this, then you would likely benefit from investing in a GMAT Course of some type (either Guided Self-Study or instructor-led), so you should plan to look into the available options. Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at out site (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

If you have any additional question, then you can feel free to contact me directly.

Hi

I have just started my preparation for GMAT. And, I gave a diagnostic test and scored 550(Q47,V20) ( I gave this on GMAT prep software). I have an engineering background and I have 5-6 months to prepare. I need help in choosing a prep course.

I have gone through e-gmat. I liked verbal and quant part. Especially, I liked the way they have pre-quiz and post quiz, to allow you to check on your concept understanding. I also went through Math revolution and I liked the methods that they are using but I felt videos dim and dull.

I am aiming for a score around 740-760.

Can anyone suggest me a suitable prep course based on my score.

Thanks.

Hi
You can opt for egmat, EmpowerGMAT, economist GMAT. All these courses have good feedback on the Gmatclub. Make sure to take free trial before you enroll for any course as it will help you finalize which course suits you the most. All the best.

You are likely to benefit from a revision of the basic concepts at this stage. Right now, the choice of course is not as important as actually getting that (revision of concepts) done. Select whichever one (none is also an option) you feel comfortable with and just get going.

Hi

Math revolution= It is an Only Quant Course good if your math is rusty but you already have Q47 so i dont think you have any need of it
e-gmat= Good for non-Verbal speaker of English

Good Luck

Hi Lowkya,

3-4 months is good enough be enough to improve your score. It’s a good thing you have taken your GMAT Mock once. You now know your weaknesses and work on them. If you are willing to study dedicatedly for 2 months, you are sure to achieve your goal. I believe you may benefit from solidifying your base in verbal first.

Your choice of E-gmat for verbal is great. E-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

You can also try out the MGMAT guides they are phenomenal and cover the entire syllabus really well. MGMAT foundation of GMAT verbal will particularly help you solidify your base. I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

I would also encourage you to purchase GMATPREP QP1 for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.

Lastly, you can check out a very interesting article by Mike McGarry from Magoosh detailing a 3 month study plan

https://magoosh.com/gmat/2012/3-month-g ... -students/. You will find it very helpful as it gives out a study plan as per your needs.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Hi

Thanks for the replies.

I reviewed my quant section and I found that most of the questions that are incorrect are from DS and some of the being silly mistakes.

I strongly feel a need to brush my concepts and practice good number of questions apart from mocks.

Any suggestions apart from MGMAT books.

Thanks.

Hi Lowkya,

Indeed - making sure you don't make stupid/silly mistakes is absolutely critical. You don't want to knocked of points when - for example - you did all the calculation correctly and solved for x, but the question was asking for x+3.

Always step back before you confirm your final answer and ask yourself: What was the question and is my answer the answer to that question?

You'll be surprised how important this simple mental thought process can be in terms of your final score.

For additional practice material, we encourage you to study OG rigorously -- we have some SC video solutions you can follow along here:
