What is wrong with option B? Also, in case of idioms not only...but also, can but is also be acceptable ?

What is wrong with Option B? Parallelism is also maintained

Any reason why B was eliminated? It clearly compares the commercial success of both the albums and maintains parallelism? Please clarify.

Ironically, the commercial success of the rock band’s first greatest hits CD, which contained 10 tracks, was greater than their most recent greatest hits album, which not only received more critical acclaim, but is the only CD that has songs released by both of their record companies as well.

A. was greater than their most recent greatest hits CD, which not only received more critical acclaim, but is the only CD that has songs released by both of their record companies as well. The structure should be: 'not only, but also'

B .was greater than the commercial success of its most recent greatest hits CD, which not only received more critical acclaim, but is the only CD that has songs released by both of its record companies. Same as 'A'

C. was greater than that of its most recent greatest hits CD, which not only received more critical acclaim, but is also the only CD that has songs released by both of its record companies. Clean comparison with singular form

D. was greater than that of its most recent greatest hits CD, which not only received more critical acclaim, but is also the only CD that has songs released by both of their record companies asswell. The band is singular, not plural

E. was greater than that of its most recent greatest hits CD, which not only received more critical acclaim, but is the only CD that has songs released by both of its record companies as well. Same as 'A'

Could you please explain more as to how you eliminated B? "Not only...but also" is an idiom but so is "Not only...but" ?

B and C look identical but there is minor difference between two

B uses the whole word "commercial success" again
Whereas C uses "that" for the same, "that" correctly points to commercial success

GMAT generally prefer usage of " that" instead of repeating whole word.

So in terms of brevity C is better than B

Here we need "not only - but also".

We have "ROCK BAND" singular.

We are comparing "success to success".

4. was greater than that of its most recent greatest hits CD, which not only received more critical acclaim, but is also the only CD that has songs released by both of their record companies as well.

5. was greater than that of its most recent greatest hits CD, which not only received more critical acclaim, but is the only CD that has songs released by both of its record companies as well.

There is nothing wrong in B but when we compare B and C then we find the difference of "that". From here we can say that B is wordy.
