led... to is the correct idiom. So A,B and C are out.

Out of D and E, E is sweet and concise. D is too wordy.

Between D and E, it has to be D for conciseness.

should be D.

other than the problem with apostrophe

called by the name of is redundant ... so it leaves us with D

joseph was called joe -> correct
joseph was called by the name of joe -> incorrect

All the options except "C" have redundancy issue
Called + name, both implies same thing.
