Hi there,
I have an option between Kelley Online, McCombs Executive and Foster Hybrid MBAs
Kelley = $60k (Because I received ~$10K in scholarship)
McCombs = ~125k
Foster = ~$70k
I live in Austin and have 12yrs exp and am a s/w dev manager. I am looking to move out of technical role to a non-technical role.
Here are my main concerns other than the fee difference
1. Will it be easy to make a career change with an online MBA?
2. The average student age in the Exec MBA program is close to my age and the work exp is close as well. So I am thinking it would be better to have students of similar age and work exp
3. I wonder if the networking opportunities will be better with an in person exec program vs online program and therefore it will be slightly easier to find a new opportunity. On the other hand, there will be lot more students in the online program than the exec program.
4. I would like to continue living in Austin, although if there is a compelling opportunity, I am open to relocating.
If McCombs tuition wasn't as high, I would have probably picked it. But I haven't been able to justify paying twice as much. May be the ROI will be better with UT MBA. That's why I need some insights from you all.
Thanks
Hi
rbaustin1. No
I am not much for any kind of online degree.
I dont see what you get with online degree and why would anybody take you seriously.
2. Very true
3. Of course that networking is advantage of UT EMBA or Foster MBA.
With online mba, there is no real networking.
Number of students in online mba doesnt affect networking, again because there is no serious networking.
4. Isnt Foster MBA compelling enough ?
So Foster Hybrid MBA is also mostly online ?
Forget it.
Of course that ROI on UT EMBA will make it wortwhile, you will pay the difference in year or two and then enjoy whole life boost in career and bigger checks.
You will met right people and form life long connections.
Online mba is a joke.
McCombs is known as best business school in Texas.
McCombs has weighted salary of 148,978$ and 98% salary increase as per Financial Times.
Of course those figures are for MBA but I dont see why for EMBA should be any different. (2018 FT MBA rankings)
So I did even further research and found that for McCombs EMBA weighted salary is
165,714$ with salary increase of 37%, also as per FT EMBA 2017 rankings.
Even better.
I am glad that I was helpful to you to make (only one) right choice !
