While a family was away on vacation, they paid a neighborhood boy $11 per week to mow their lawn and $4 per day to feed and walk their dog. If the family was away for exactly 3 weeks, how much did they pay the boy for his services?

A. $45

B. $54

C. $71

D. $95

E. $117

NEW question from GMAT® Official Guide 2019

(PS05001)

Note:

1. Family paid $11 per week to mow their lawn.
2. Family paid $4 per day to feed their cows.

Requirement:
To find out the total cost of the family during 3 weeks trips .

Calculation:

3*11 = 33
21*4 = 84

(33+84) = $117

Thus the best option is E.

..... paid a neighborhood boy $11 per week to mow their lawn...
So, in 3 weeks, the amount the family paid for lawn-moving = (3 weeks)($11/week) = $33

...the family paid $4 per DAY to feed and walk their dog...
3 weeks = 21 DAYS
So, the amount the family paid for dog care = (21 days)($4/day) = $84

TOTAL amount paid = $33 + $84 = $117

Answer: E

The family paid:

11 x 3 + 4 x 21 = 33 + 84 = 117 dollars.

Just a question for experienced folks on here. Do such easy questions even appear on the gmat? This seems like a 300 level at best.

Thanks.

11 per week

then for three weeks - 11*3 = 33
$ per day for feeding dog
total number of days - 21 * 4
84

84 + 33 117
