Re: If three sides of the triangle are 8 , 15 and x respectively then the [#permalink]

Given: Three sides of a Triangle are 8, 15 and X
Needed: How many Values can X take
Concept: Sum of any two sides of a triangle is greater then the third side.

Case 1: 8+5 > x => X<13
Case 2: 5+X > 8 => X >3
Case 3: 8+X > 5 => X > -3 (Always true since X is one side of a Triangle)

Finally, 3 < X < 13. So, we can have infinite number of sides between 3 and 13.

Answer = E

PS: If question said X can take only integer value, the X = 9. Answer choice D.

how can it be infinite if 3 < X < 13 X is between 3 and 13 the range of values is limited, isnt it ? :?
