But honestly, let's use Occam's razor.

If the intent of these emails is to improve yield through increased communication, why painstakingly go through their email distro and pick out the "high prob. of admit" candidates when they can just hit "reply all" to everyone who applied?

I don't buy that they mean anything at all, but could be wrong.

Last year it was a portal update at the end of the day if I remember correctly. Reapplicant here.

Last year it was a portal update at the end of the day if I remember correctly. Reapplicant here.

From the last year's decision tracker, I see all the admits were informed through the phone throughout the day. All the dings were communicated through email at the end of the day.

Anybody hear anything about an “email signal”? Allegedly, Kellogg creates email addresses (firstname.lastname@kellogg.northwestern.edu) for admits the day before the calls. So if you send an email to your potential email address and it doesn’t bounce back then apparently you’re in. I saw that on Reddit, but I can’t confirm it. Pretty cool if anyone can verify.

I think you can only see messages since you opened the chat, not the earlier messages. Folks were discussing the email trick earlier this morning. A few people reported that it worked, and they received an admit call. At least one person received an admit call and reported that the email trick didn't work for them.
