A car travels 60 kilometers in one hour before a piston breaks, then travels at 30 kilometers per hour for the remaining 60 kilometers to its destination. What is its average speed in kilometers per hour for the entire trip?

A. 20
B. 40
C. 45
D. 50
E. 60

We can use the formula: average = total distance/total time.

Time 1 = 1 hour and time 2 = 60/30 = 2 hours. Total time is 3 hours.

Distance 1 = 60 miles and distance 2 = 60 miles. Total distance is 120 miles, so we have:

average speed = 120/3 = 40 mph

So.
Speed 1= distance/time =60/1=60
Speed 2 = given as 30

Avgspeed= 2s1s2/s1+s2
= 2*30*60/30+60=40
