I too chose D at the first. But later I realised the modifier error in D. Modifier 'intended to increase the shelf life' is modifying 'Freeze drying' , not the process.
Option A clearly shows the intended meaning.

again intended meaning problem look what option A says it says that freeze-dry process intended to increase the shelf life of vaccines will remove the need for the cold storage so it means that freeze process increases the shelf life of vaccines so we don't need cold storage, where as B says that freeze-dry process, which removes the need for the cold storage, intends to increase the shelf life of vaccines that means freeze dry process removes the need of cold storage and intends to increase the shelf life of vaccines. So it is not showing cause and effect relationship that is why this option is wrong. Secondly look at in B option which removes which is simple present which means that its a universal truth or fact statement and it is not anyone of them.
hope i was able to help you.

A process cannot intend, it can be intended.

I think A cannot be the answer to this SC problem because
"...removes the need for the cold storage" - Which means that it removes the need for cold storage itself but the intended meaning is that it removes the need for the cold storage of vaccines

Hi,

Can anyone pls explain why "C" is incorrect since the cause-effect is explained correctly in it.
With this i wanted to ask whether the tense given in question stem CAN NEVER be changed in answer choices and should always be withheld?

How can "A" be the answer since it says -- " the COLD STORAGE itslef can be re,moved" doesn't it twists the intended meaning of the sentence.

Need help...

I agree that option A is not correct. However, neither is option C.

By the way, we don't want to look at intended here as a past tense verb (It is a modifier). You could go through point 3 in this post, which looks at intended to.

A. freeze-dry process intended to increase the shelf life of vaccines will remove the need for the cold storage

B. freeze-dry process, which removes the need for the cold storage, intends to increase the shelf life of vaccines
"the" in cold storage is redundant, intends is wrong

C. freeze-dry process intends to increase the shelf life of vaccines and removes the need for their cold storage.
intends is wrong

D. process of freeze-drying, intended to increase the shelf life of vaccines, would remove the need for their cold storage
it is not clear what "their is referring to"

E. process of freeze-drying is intended to increase the shelf life of vaccines to remove the need for their cold storage
meaning is changed
