Hi

Quick question...how much of a role does your GMAT score play during placements? Specifically at ISB

The GMAT score is used as a factor by consulting firms and investment banks. Outside that, many people report it on their resume if the score is good, and it can act as a further point to highlight for them, but companies from most other industries will not use it as a selection factor.

In that case, would you recommend that if someone got an admit but was looking for a consulting role should defer their admission until they give their GMAT again? If yes, what should be a good target score for someone like that?

No, would not recommend deferring your admit by one year just for this reason. If you have not yet applied, a better alternative would be to first raise your score and get a 700+ (in general; of course the higher the better) to maximize your chances for admission first. In case you would like to raise your score further even after getting an admit, you would have enough time after getting the admit if you apply in R1 or R2 to raise the score.

Not at all. Consulting firms will look at your GPA during ISB and make a decision. The chances of a low GMAT score pulling you down from a Consulting Career are next to zero. However, if you want to increase your score to improve your chances of getting admitted to ISB, then it is totally different.

Tridisha

Historically, have the ISB Round 1 deadlines been pushed up? - i.e to October 15?

Hi Akash, not too different, except that scholarships are available only in R1; apart from that, in terms of chances of admission, there is no significant difference between the two rounds.
