Re: ISB Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Hey,

It will be great if someone could help me in evaluating my profile for ISB.

I'm working as a software engineer at the Adobe. Been a part of Adobe Acrobat Team for 4 years and worked on PDF (Both in Quality and Development) and its related solutions. Have worked cross-functionally with other teams within my company and outside my company.

Academic Stats -

USICT Btech CSE(Class of 2015) - 78%
Class 12th - 92.6%
Class 10th - 89.6%

Why MBA?
Interested in changing my vertical to Product Management and also have an interest in Business Analytics.
Also, it would great if someone could share and guide me regarding my further steps for the GMAT prep and its timeline. :)

Thanks in Advance!

Ok, this might be an odd one. I have 13 years experience in the Indian IT industry and with international exposure in London for the past 5 years. Been working with a leading Insurance client for the past 8 years in various roles and have good exposure in the insurance market especially in Europe. I also am a Certified member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, United Kingdom and hold an Executive Certificate in Management from the University of Virginia. Post MBA I plan to transition into a Consulting role in Insurance. Other information on my profile as follows

Undergrad Information- Mechanical Engineering from Biju Patnaik University of Technology, graduated in 2005 with 73.33%.

GMAT:750

No major extra curriculars to talk about but have been involved in long distance running since 2012 and participated in half marathons in India and UK.

Looking for a feedback on profile and if it makes sense to apply to the ISB PGP program this year.

Cheers..

Wouldn't this goal be really niche? Do you know for sure that Consulting companies, at least the major ones, do have such roles to offer?

Hi Neel, while no one can lay out any objective criterion for the absolute minimum, 700+ will be good; obviously the higher, the better.

Good luck!

Hi radheykulkarni, so you've done both a Diploma and graduation in Mechanical Engineering?

GMAT score is slightly on the lower side. Any chance you can try pushing it up by at least 20-30 points?

Also, what's your motivation for MBA?

Hi,

Deloitte, Bain & Co, Accenture all have Insurance practices and roles do open up occasionally. Deloitte I believe has a larger presence than the others in the Insurance space.

Hi radheykulkarni

Looks fairly good here. Given that your undergrad was only 69% (yes, we know - Pune University!), you should try and improve the score by 20 points if possible. Other than that, start focusing on your app now. You should have a good chance with a decent app.

Hi aankursingh10

Very interesting profile, and with a 680+ you should have a solid chance at the Indian schools. Aim for 720+ for INSEAD though. Also keep in mind that you will have little time to prepare the INSEAD app after getting your score, so work in parallel on that (if targeting R1) and other apps as well to your GMAT prep.

Hi nvdmurty

While the GMAT score is solid, the lack of ECA and 13+ years of experience may be a bit much for ISB. Maybe look at IIMA/B as alternatives. You can still apply to ISB, but your goals and need for an MBA at this stage need to be super clear, and even then, chances are relatively low (owing to the experience factor)

Hey,

Thanks for the evaluation.

Yes, instead of 12th i did my diploma in Mechanical engineering and then pursued a Degree in ME.

Yes, 680 was a bummer, I am working on my second attempt for GMAT.

My motivation:
- As a facilitator for innovation projects, i have realised that the business acumen and innovation acumen both are essential to accomplish set aspirations. But at the same time business teams and innovation teams often have very different perspectives on the solution directions.
- With MBA i want to better understand the business perspective and then move into managerial positions to drive projects with these two perspectives blended together.

Hi Radhey, these are currently coming across as very generic!

Need to put more meat into this, though a thorough brain-storming.
