Michael earns $6.00 per hour for the first 40 hours he works [#permalink]
Given : 1.Micheal earns $6/h for the first 40 hours
2.Double after that.
3.He earned $324 this week


Let the number of extra hours be x

equation : 6(40) + 12x = 324

12x = 324-240

x = \(\frac{84}{12}\)

x = 7

Total number of hours he worked that week = 40 + x = 47

My logical way of solving this problem :
6$ for 40 Hours = 240$
Then i substract 324$-240$=84$
They told us for overtime the earns per hours is double than the first 40hours
So 6$ will be 6*2=12$
Now we divide the 84$/12$=7hours
Now i add 7Hours plus the regular 40h
47 hours so the answer is E
