Advice Needed - 740 (49Q, 41V) with 8 IR vs 750 (49Q, 42V) with 6 IR

Advice Needed - 740 (49Q, 41V) with 8 IR vs 750 (49Q, 42V) with 6 IR [#permalink] New post   14 Dec 2019, 18:37
I decided to retake the GMAT recently because I felt I could improve my score without too much additional effort. I did a small 10 point increase, but experienced a reduction in my IR score by two points to a 6.

Can anyone share their perspective which of the two scores (740 (49Q, 41V) with 8 IR and 750 (49Q, 42V) with 6 IR) is better and what I should go with?

Welcome to GMAT Club.

Both scores are great and above the average for any bschool. You could use either. However, there is an easy answer.

IR does not really matter or count in any meaningful way so I would use the 750 score.

Hi,

I would definitely go with 750. But then, make sure there is no specific cut off on IR, for any university that you’re applying for.

Can you provide a link to an mba program page that has IR cut off? I never heard of that....

INSEAD has a cutoff of 6 for IR.

"How does INSEAD evaluate the IR section and what score is required for admissions?
As of June 2012, the GMAT test includes an Integrated Reasoning (IR) section, which is designed to measure a test taker’s ability to evaluate information presented in new formats and from multiple sources. When taking the GMAT test, you should aim for achieving an IR score of 6 or above."

740 and 750 are great scores. I think that going with the 750 is a good move.

I agree with BB. IR doesn't really matter much and IR 6 is well above the average IR scorers. Make sure AWA is also minimum 4 for both tests.

750 (49q, 42v, ir6) gives you more advantage than 740 (49q, 41v, ir8)
