The interview will still be blind. It will be by an adcom member who hasn't gone through your application. I believe that being interviewed directly by an adcom member works in your favour, but I'm speculating.

Hi! Could someone clarify how the Kellogg interview process works?

My understanding is:
Most applicants are interviewed (Either by AdCom or by alums)
Interviews are waived off for a few applicants

Post this, the final decisions are released - WL/ Admitted/ Denied.

Is this right? Or does Kellogg function like other Universities - where only selective interview invitations are sent out?

Is signals interest in you because if they can't match you with an alumni they often waive the interview rather than do a Skype interview. So that's good. It all comes down to whether or not you're good on camera and if you can express yourself and create rapport on camera. I had a candidate who did a Skype interview for Kellogg but in person for Booth Stanford MIT and Berkeley; Kellogg was the only school he did not get into. If you're used to talking to friends over Skype and feel comfortable in that format then it will be less of an obstacle. It's something worth practicing. abhi2000in

Hi guys! I need some advice. I originally selected on my application that I was only available for an off-campus interview at Kellogg. Long story short, we were a few weeks out from launching a new product and down a team member, and I didn't want to leave them in a lurch. (They've been so great with my application mania) However, our launch just got pushed, so I'm now available to meet on campus. Is it worth reaching out to AdCom about this?

I know it is probably too late to schedule my 48-hour window from the Round 2 deadline, but does the ability to meet on campus matter here?

Edit: I haven't been invited to an interview yet for clarification.

Its not a call center, when you call admissions (or email the admissions email) you get one of the three people who work the reception desk in the office. They are very nice and helpful! I think you can explain to them that you have this change in circumstances, if they have open on campus spots they may allow you to switch. There is no harm in asking. They rarely add any info that you give to them to your file as "supplemental information" unless it is an uncommonly rude interaction or a change in GMAT score or something.

Kellogg tries to interview as many candidates as possible. Once they run out of alums in an area, they start filling up adcom members' calendars with skype interviews. Having an adcom interview vs a skype vs on campus is all the same, the only difference is if you perform better in a certain setting vs another. The % of admits among interviewed candidates is around 30%. Any chance to interview is always a good thing, but it is not the same positive signal as it is with other interview invites from other schools, and the format does not matter.

My interview was a skype interview with adcom, it was a blind interview, and there was no "grilling". Because Kellogg puts so much emphasis on culture fit, the interview is one of the most important parts of the application and they want to make sure there are no "false positives" or "false negatives" and interviewers (whether adcom, alum, or student) all go through the same training process so that they are as equal and calibrated as possible.

Just do your best and try not to stress about any "hidden meanings" often people see hidden meanings where there are none, which is likely the case here.

They try to interview as many candidates as possible. Getting a Kellogg interview invite is not the same level of selectivity as with other schools.

I relay this because my candidate did this exact thing he said it was like a call center and it wasn't personalized and they specifically asked him to add it to the supplemental information in his application. I also found it surprising but I know things can change from year to year.

Its unfortunate that he got the impression that it was a call center. It definitely isn't. I know the 3 people personally. They may have had other people in the office at the time or something and were unable to pull up his file at the moment, which would maybe give the impression that it wasn't "personalized"?

Me: what does that mean submit supplemental information on your application?
Him: There is an option in the application to add supporting material such as test scores etc - they asked me to add a note explaining when I will be in London
Me:also wondering if they spoke to when you would be matched or any of that
Him: No - it was essentially a call centre. The guy didn’t know anything about me - didn’t even ask for my details.

I got done with my interview with an alum. The interviewer was super nice and responsive.(Not going to comment on how it went, coz I don't know).

First impression, one alum interviews only one candidate, so it is possible to not get matched. So those who haven't received yet, don't fret, it says more about the availability and nothing about the strength of your application.

On the other hand, F2F IMO is better to get to know someone. Kellogg by doing this not only gets a better idea about the candidate, but it also advertises its vast alumni base

It was but ofcourse they have some question that they need to ask. But there is some backnforth. Not at all nerve-wracking

MBAPrepCoach I mean. I’m not really sure what you want me to say/what value it adds to continue to go back and forth. It’s not a call center.

I know first hand because I am a current student and occasionally volunteer with admissions. I don’t want others on this forum to receive inaccurate information because of an applicant’s assumptions, which tends to happen a lot.
