Re: Polysaccharides reduce the rate at which sugar is [#permalink]
Polysaccharides reduce the rate at which sugar is absorbed in blood stream. this prevents the glucose level from rising quickly. This gives the feeling of being full, curbing the need to eat frequently. Foods such as beans and whole grains contain high quantity of polysaccharides.

Which of the following can be inferred from the passage above?

A) All overweight people will benefit from a diet rich in polysaccharides.
Wrong. Some people are over-weight due to hormonal problems or their genes also.

B) People who do not enjoy eating beans have tendency to overeat.
Only beans alone do not have polysacchrides. There are other foods also. So we can't make a general statement about beans only.

C) A diet rich in polysaccharides such as beans and whole grains may help reduce appetite and help people eat less frequently.
This perfectly summaries or inferences the whole argument.

D) Polysaccharides help reduce blood sugar level.
Wrong. It reduces the rate at which sugar is absorbed in the blood stream which prevents glucose level from rising. No direct connection of polysaccharides and sugar level is made.

E) It is essential to include whole grains and beans in a good balanced meal.
Wrong. The argument is not talking about good balanced meal at all.

The passage says the polysaccharides reduce the sugar absorbing rate but the passage didn't tell that polysaccharides reduce glucose. But the passage confirms that the polysaccharides lower the appetite.

The answer is C
