Why is -1 not greater than -2?

- 1 is right of -2 on the number line and is, therefore, greater than -2.

So, statement 2 is sufficient to answer the question stem.

Answer B

Is m/n>1?

Statement 1: mn>1
m=3, n=2 Answer is yes
m=0.5, n=5 Answer is no
Insufficient
Statement 2: m-n>0
m>n
m=3, n=2 Answer is yes
m=-1, n=-2 Answer is no
Insufficient
Both statements together:
m=3, n=2 Answer is yes
m=-1,n=-2 Answer is no
Still Insufficient

-1 > -2 , you are right

But let us take m= -1 and n = -2
m>n = 1/2 hence not gretaer than 1

But if m = 3, n = 2
m/n >1

SO, Statement 2 is NOT sufficient

(1) mn > 1
(2) m - n > 0

m/n will be greater than 1 when both m and n are of same sign, both of them are non-zero and when m and n are both positive, m > n and when they are negative m < n.
1) m and n are of same sign. insufficient by itself.
2) m > n. Same as 1.

Still we dont know the exact sign of m and n. If m =-4, n =-6, then m/n is less than 1. But when m =6, n =2, m/n is more than 1. Insuff.
E is the answer.

S1: m = 2, n =1 YES; m = 1, n =2 NO. NOT SUFFICIENT.

S2: This can be rewritten as m > n. m = 2, n = 1 YES; m = -1, n = -2 NO. NOT SUFFICIENT.

S1+S2: Example and counterexample from S2 still work. NOT SUFFICIENT.
