Re: What is the value of 2x^2 + 9x − 20? [#permalink]
1. (x+7)(2x-5)=0 implies 2x^2 + 9x - 35 = 0 implies 2x^2 + 9x -20 = 15...sufficient

2. x> 0..insufficient

Re: What is the value of 2x^2 + 9x − 20? [#permalink]
What is the value of \(2x^2 + 9x − 20\)?

    (1) (x +7) * (2x−5)= 0
    (2) x > 0

i) x = -7 or x = 5/2

Solving for x = -7 => 2*(-7)^2 + 9(-7) - 20 = 98 - 63 - 20 = 15

Solving for x = 5/2 => 25/2 + 45/2 - 20 = 35 - 20 = 15

- Sufficient

ii) x > 0 - Insufficient

Re: What is the value of 2x^2 + 9x − 20? [#permalink]
1. X=-7 or X=5/2
hence sufficient

2.X>0 multiple values of X
hence insufficient

Thus A

Re: What is the value of 2x^2 + 9x − 20? [#permalink]
Ans: A

1)(x +7) * (2x−5)= 0
so,x = -7 or 5/2

solving for x=-7,2x2+9x−20=2.49-63-20=15
solving for x=5/2, 25/4+45/2-20=15

as putting both the possible values in the equation,we are getting same value 15, so eq1 is sufficient.

2)x > 0 - Insufficient
