Hello,
Hi @TheleoPride-- happy to evaluate your profile!Could someone please evaluate my profile too?
Demographics (nationality, gender): Indian, male, will be 30 years old, this July.
The best shot for Indian males applying to Fuqua is to apply in the early action round. Now this is going to be a bit tricky next year because there will likely be some deferrals ahead of you. But I still think getting in your application early is the best plan. If you were to apply in this extended R3 you likely still would not get the visa so I think you should shoot for early R1 next fall.· Education (undergraduate institution, GPA, major - high school/entrance exams not needed): Visvesvaraya Technological University, (India), Bachelor's in Electrical and Electronics engineering, GPA : 2.78
Your university likely does not have GPA in US format-- so don't convert it to a 2.78-- that is not helpful. I would just put it in the form on your transcript-- it could be helpful that the MBA programs may not have to report the international GPAs into their averages since they don't translate well-- that is your best hope. That being said-- I have seen clients get into Fuqua on a GPA that low so it is not impossible. But to be fair it was not an Indian man either....· GMAT or GRE (include section breakdown): 730 (Q49, VA 45 )
That's a solid score-- in the next few months if you can get that up to 750 that helps you even more-- but this is certainly a solid score. But remember you want to do all you can to compensate for the lower gpa so if you can put more effort in and get a few more points between now and September-- do it! I mean-- what else is there to do these days!.Work experience (highlight amount of work experience, industries, roles, promotions, special accomplishments, international exposure):
- Started with IBM as an IT analyst and moved to Deloitte as an IT consultant. Was an individual contributor, and received a 'stellar performer of the year' award. Planned three
different platforms to address client issues. Worked with the development teams to outline a ticketing tool, curated for my team needs.
- Joined British Telecommunications as a network engineer, and later got promoted as a manager - workforce management consulting ( Individual contributor) . Designed a sharepoint
site for global clients to analyse their project data. Brainstormed different versions to come up with something closer to their operational goals. Received 4 quarterly awards for
process improvement, and 5 (senior) client recommendations. Massively improved operational performances for 3 different projects which was performing pathetically poor, leveraging
the benefits of the dashboard I designed. I have also been involved with several business transformational projects.
Great work experience-- I like that you have been promoted and have a range of industries. When you share these stories-- focus on your impact-- how much money did you save? help bring in? How much faster did you get the project done? etc... try to quantify some of these wins to show your impact.- Have a brief ( failed) entrepreneurship journey after bachelor's. I brought together a team from few of the best IITs to build a product, however, failed to gain clients. Learnt a lot from the experience.
Don't be afraid to share the failure and what you learned. This can help humanize you-- and also identify what you need in the MBA to help you be successful next time.IBM : January 2014 – August 2015
Deloitte : September 2015 – December 2016
British Telecom : December 2016 – Present.
· Extracurricular activities (highlight notable undergraduate and post-undergraduate ones):
- School :
- Was the cultural captain : Was responsible to host cultural events and collaborate with other schools on cultural fests. Received 4 gold medals in school level athletics.
-Was the captain of the school's cricket team, for two years. (captaincy rotated every two years.
- Undergraduate:
o Founded the college's first heavy metal band
o Started the college's first Music club with a separate brick and mortar house.
o Received several gold/silver medals for different inter-college sports/game/music competitions.
o Founded a poetry club.
. Post-MBA goals: I want to get into management consulting or finance.
Do some research with Fuqua students on the most likely consulting firms-- go beyond MBB-- talk to people in the consulting club-- and yes-- you can still reach out even if school is not in session. Talk to one of these students to begin your research process : Student Ambassadors· Other information relevant to your profile: I have no international experience, but most of my clients have been from diverse nationalities.
Bottom line-- If you can dream it, it can be done. It can help to have a coach who has worked with many candidates successfully. One of my clients just got accepted to Fuqua this week with a nice scholarship to boot and that person's stats are not as strong as yours. We have a lot of bench strength on Fuqua-- which is actually just down the road from me-- so if you want to learn more how Stratus can help-- reach out for a free consult! Regards,
