Dear all,
I just completed my GMAT and got a 760 V42 Q51. I had done it also almost 6 years ago and had scored 710 so I had some experience with the exam. I studied on my own and this forum helped me a great deal. This is the reason I want to share my journey here. I was fortunate to have a month of free time that I could fully dedicate to GMAT. Below you will find my key takeaways.
Prep material:
For prep material, I used only the GMAT official materials. I would do some questions from other sources but they never looked like real GMAT questions and were much harder than necessary. For the quantitative section, the differences are slighter while I would not recommend any of the materials for the verbal (except the books on sentence correction).
I did, however, do about 10 LSAT tests that tremendously helped me read the passages quicker and sharpen my critical reasoning skills. It took me 2 and a half minutes per question so timing is not so important when you do the LSAT. I am sure that most of my mistakes in the verbal section came from the sentence correction.
Prep materials that I used are
OG 2nd edition, Quantitative review 2nd Edition, Verbal Review 2nd edition,
OG 2020, Quantitative review 2020, verbal review 2020 and GMAT Official Advanced questions. For tough math questions, I used the material in this post.
700-800 Level Quant Problem Collection + Detailed Solutions
CAT
I purchased the 6 CATs from Kaplan (used only 3) and CAT 3 and 4 from GMAT. I also took the free CAT tests from other providers.
Official practice test 1 -- 710
Kaplan tests -- 670 700 680
Official practice test 2-- 730
Manhattan and Verticas -- 670 670
Official practice test 3-- 740
Official practice test 4 --750
My main message is please focus only on official material. In case there are not enough questions pick two editions that are quite far apart so the questions are not repeated, as I did. Moreover, utilize the GMATClub
error log and posts so you can know on which areas to focus.
Good luck to all of you!
