So, COMBINED, they can text 95 words per minute
Let's round this up to 100 words per minute
So, the number of words PER HOUR = (100)(60) = 6000
And, the number of words PER DAY = (24)(6000) ≈ (25)(6000) ≈ 150,000

So, COMBINED, the two people can text approximately 150,000 words per day

Working together, how many days will it take Jessica and Maurice to text 410,400 words?
Time = output/rate
= 410,400/150,000
≈3

Time in Days = 41400/(95*60*24)

I followed this question perfectly until I got to the 410400/95 part to get the total minutes it would take. Is there a math shortcut for this because fumbled with the long division along time

Not likely that you will see such intensive calculations..
But if you such a Q..

Combined speed 85+10=95 words/min..
so 410400 words in \(\frac{410400}{95*60*24}\) days..

Now see if choices can help you...
4104 is a multiple of 9 as 4+1+0+4 is multiple of 9.....
4104 is also a multiple of 19 as the Denominator 95 is a multiple of 19 and NONE of the choices have 19..
also 4104 is a multiple of 8 as LAST 3 digits 104 is multiple of 8....
when you multiply 9*19*8, you realize only another 3 is required to reach 4104...
so \(\frac{19*9*8*3*100}{19*5*60*8*3}=\frac{9*10*5*2}{5*3*2*10}=3\)

ofcourse still calculations are there but slightly lesser work

Together they can text 85 + 10 = 95 words per minute, which means they can text 95 x 60 = 5,700 words per hour. Therefore, if we let x = the number of hours it takes for them to text the entire abridged translation of War and Peace, we have:

5,700x = 410,400

x = 410,400/5,700

x = 72 hours

Assuming they work 24 hours a day, it will take them 72/24 = 3 days to text the entire abridged translation of War and Peace.

\(95 = \frac{410,400}{Time}\)

\(Time = \frac{410,400}{95} minutes\)

Converting into days: \(\frac{410,400}{95}\) \(minutes\) \(*\) \(\frac{1}{60}\) \(\frac{hour}{minutes}\) \(*\) \(\frac{1}{24}\) \(\frac{day}{hours}\)

The minutes and hours cancel out to give the number of days. Solving the expression yields,
3 days, Ans C

Jessica and Maurice can text 95 words in 1 minute. To text the book together they need = 410,400/ 95*60 hour = 432/6 = 72 hour or 3 days.


C is the answer.

so every minute both can text 95 words and total words are 410400 words
so total minutes required = 410400 / 95
= 4320 minutes
now convert in days
4320 / ( 60* 24) = 3 days

combined rate = 85 + 10 = 95 w/min
work = 410,400
time = 410,400/95m = 4320m = 4320m/60m = 72h = 72h/24d = 3days
