No.s are q,r,s
Given,
r = q + 8 &
s = r + 11
=> s = q + 8 + 11 = q + 19

Now, no.s are q , q + 8 , q + 19
Therefore,
Median = q + 8 &
Mean =\( \frac{q + q + 8 + q + 19}{3}\) = \(\frac{3q + 27}{3}\) = q + 9

So, Difference between mean and median = (q + 9) - (q + 8) = q + 9 - q - 8 = 1

Hence, OA is (C)

Re: If q, r, and s represent three numbers in which r = q + 8 and s = r + [#permalink]
Three numbers q,r and s
where, r = q + 8 => r-8 = q and s = r + 11
can be written as r-8,r,r+11
in which median = r
mean = Total/no.of units
mean = r-8+r+r+11/3
mean = 3r +3/3
mean = r+1

subtracting median from mean = r+1-r = 1
answer is C

Asked: If q, r, and s represent three numbers in which r = q + 8 and s = r + 11, what is the result when the median of the three numbers is subtracted from their mean?

r = q + 8
s = r + 11 = q + 19

Set = {q, q+8, q+19}
Median = q + 8

Mean = (q + q + 8 + q + 19)/3 = (3q + 27)/3 = q + 9

Mean - Median = (q + 9) - (q + 8) = 1

Re: If q, r, and s represent three numbers in which r = q + 8 and s = r + [#permalink]
r = q + 8
s = r + 11

=> s > r > q

Mean = (r + s + q)/3 = r+1

Median = r

=> Mean - Median = r + 1 - r = 1

r=q+8
s=r+11
q=r-8

If R=11
Mean=12
Median=11

Mean (12) - Median (11) = 1

Let’s just Plug In. Make q=0. That means r=8 and s=19. Median = 8. Mean = 27/3 = 9. Mean - median = 9-8 = 1.

Answer choice C
