speed of A ; 18/ 6 ; 3 mph
speed of B; 18/4 ; 2.5 mph
difference 1.5 mph

18 miles-- 4 hrs= 4.5 m/hr
18 miles-- 3 hrs= 6 m/hr

Thus, the increase is 1.5 mphr

Solution:

The average speed of runner X is 18/6 = 3 mph, and the average speed of runner Y is 18/4 = 4.5 mph. Therefore, the average speed of runner Y is 4.5 - 3 = 1.5 mph faster than the average speed of runner X.

Answer: B
