Cornell... Are decision always delievered on fixed dates?

I don't have any stats for Cornell, but I do have some info about other schools.

For Harvard, I have heard that they admit about 50-60% of those that they interview.

For Stanford, an adcom actually said that they hope interview 800 students and admit 400-500 this year (for 370 spaces).

I believe that Wharton also admits about 50% of those that they interview.

These numbers are off the top of my head, but I believe they are more or less accurate. Getting an interview definitely doesn't mean you are a sure thing, but I think it moves you from 10-20% chance to 50%+ chance.

Of course, some schools interview everyone that applies so their admit rate for interviewed candidates should be the same as their overall rate, and at quite a few schools less than 1% of students are admitted without an interview.

Hate to respond to myself, but as I was reading Montauk's MBA guide I came across interview statistics for Cornell (by chance).

According to Ann Richards of Johnson (Cornell) "No one is admitted without an interview. We interview about 25 percent of our applicants (on an invitation-only basis), and admit about half of those we interview." p.339

I'm not sure exactly how current that quote is, but I think it's a few years old.

I like those stats on the interviews Pelihu. 25% interview rate actually seems somewhat low though. 25% interview rate, 50% of interviewed admitted. Doesn't seem like that would work out to an overall 32%-ish admitt rate for Cornell given they only admitt those they interview. Hopefully u will get a nice last min request this week ryme.

I did not hear the 80% increase, but when I asked Dean Brunner directly if he thought that the school would continue to lag its peers in terms of GMAT, GPA, admit & yield rates, he told me that he believed the school had "turned the corner" to quote him directly.

80% would be a huge increase. My guess is that they are pulling in a substantial number of "marginal" applications from those that want an elite name & education, and are enticed by the lower numbers in recent years. I would also guess that many qualified applicants are also adding them as a nice back-up, again encouraged by the numbers. Of course, if the increase is for real, the admit rate & yield, and most likely GMAT & GPA will go up immediately.
