Re: Marla used the same ingredients -- sugar, salt, flour, molasses [#permalink]
OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

(B) Three out of four batches came out just fine, and the same timing and ingredients were used. Only choice (B) would result in a different result for one of the batches.

Re: Marla used the same ingredients -- sugar, salt, flour, molasses [#permalink]
Marla used the same ingredients -- sugar, salt, flour, molasses, butter, ginger, salt, baking soda, and an egg -- to make four batches of gingerbread. She baked each batch in a pan in the oven for 30 minutes. When she had finished, she discovered that three batches were fine, but one was completely inedible.

Which of the following, if true, would best explain the paradox described?

(A) The oven was preheated to 350 degrees.

(B) Marla mixed up the salt and the sugar on the last batch. - Correct

(C) The recipe calls for 1/2 cup of light molasses.

(D) Marla used four pans, all the same size.

(E) Marla moved quickly once the first batch was done.

I got confused between E and B.
How we know it's the fourth batch that was messed not the initial one? Or the other two for that matter?
