GMAT experts; IS THAT a MYTH?

But, a string of wrong answers is bad. It means you are steadily getting easier questions wrong which means the CAT is saying, "sheesh, can't you do anything right?"

My experience is getting as few wrong in a row as possible helps a lot. Any "high" score I have recieved minimized not just the frequency of wrong answers, but also the back to back wrong answers.

We all have our theory. But, GMAC clearly states the first 10 questions are no more important than the other questions.

IMO, first questions do count more.

Firstly, from my observations, there is no "hit value" of a question, but a "miss penalty" - that is, the easier the question you screw up, the more points are deducted. First questions in a section are relatively easy, therefore you better do them right.

And secondly, they affect the complexity (and value) of the questions that follow. When I was doing GMATprep, I had 5 misses in a row at section end and still got a 770 - because my first 15 answers were correct, and I reached the "hardcore" zone. There, faults were not penalized so hard, cause the questions are considered very tough.

(Disclaimer: I have no proven data about GMAT scoring schemes, these are mere guesses based on my observations.)

Just a note:

I recieved a 40V on GMATprep and missed the first two questions... then got 13-14 right in a row. But, I wonder what I would have got with those first two correct! Also, I ran short of time and guessed the last two... (my kids were fighting and had to break it up mid way through the test!)
