Clarification on what to pursue with 8+ yrs of experience [#permalink] New post   28 Sep 2020, 06:37
Hi,

I am Udit, 31 years old. I wanted clarification on what to pursue to expand my career horizon.
I've completed my graduation in 2011 (BTech in CSE) and have 8+ years of experience in IT and Marketing. Currently I am leading a team of 24 people in a reputed MNC. I've already made 1 career transition from IT to marketing in my 8 years of career. My goal is to go for further studies in management from the top B schools. I don't aim for career transition but to move up the career ladder to see myself in the management/leadership role in the coming 7-10 years.

I am unable to decide whether to go for full time MBA, Executive MBA or part time MBA. Should I take GMAT or Executive Assessment. Which is preferred in terms of ROI? Also, do you really think that I should take coaching to excel GMAT in one go?

Being a working professional, I spend an average of 50 hours a week working. Can somebody guide me with a detailed study plan?

Please advise.

Spending 8 years in certain profiles is like having built the ground floor of a house. Your next degree (MBA/MS/ others) should help you build on top of the skillset you have already built. In other words, it is best for you to use the base of the skillsets you already have, and build on top of that.

In your particular case, you have an understanding of both IT & Marketing. Look for careers at the juncture of these.

Hi Udit,

You ask a number of good questions - and the specific answers that you're looking for will depend a great deal on the industry that you work in (and the potential companies that you might want to work for in the future). As such, you might consider reaching out to people who currently hold the types of jobs that you're interested in and ask for advice/mentorship. Those professionals likely have specific insights into the 'path' you should be taking to achieve your career goals (including which Exam you should take, Schools/Programs that you should consider applying to, etc.) - and having that perspective could help you to plan out all of these important steps in a more efficient fashion.

1) Assuming that you wanted to start studying soon, when do you think you would want to apply to Schools?
2) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?
