I think it is A, because it is about the goal that the previous generations had and it should be in past tense.

Kudos
A. as it was of earlier generations -- No clear errors.

B. like that of earlier generations -- Usage of "like" is incorrect here.

C. as that of earlier generations -- This makes it seem that earlier generations still have this goal, which is illogical since the sentence talks of young women. Surely young women of earlier generation would not be young today :)

D. just as earlier generations did -- use of "did" is to compare an action, "goal" is not an action but more of a possession. I "had" a goal. Incorrect.

E. as have earlier generations -- use of "have" i.e. present tense is not correct.
