Yeah. I don't know the details, but I know the offer was rescinded after covid hit.

Thanks for the reply. This is not at all a good news for future applicants.

My view on the opportunities post PhD are as following -

The job market is as easy or as difficult as any other (think, whether everyone who has an MBA gets a job?). As BrazilianPhD said, a lot depends on your area of research, your research outcome (papers published), networking effort etc. This year has especially been cruel... many graduating PhD students have decided not to graduate and offers rescinded. Universities too are struggling with financial constraints -- fewer international students, who are the cash cows for universities are not coming.

I suspect that this situation will stay as long as any viable medication for Covid comes in the market. But if you are planning to apply for PhD, you must do it now. You have a 5 year long lead before you enter the job market. By then, things will normalize (I have faith in medical researchers and the modern medicine). And everyone is simply hungry to go back to normal as it was. So, economic rebound should not take much longer.

Another aspect is that business PhDs don't only become professors. They can also take jobs in industries. So there..
