Hi guys,
I am very interested in getting an MBA to transition into investment banking or management/strategy consulting.
Bio: Chinese American, M, 38
Undergrad: Economics from a state university ranked between 50 and 75 in US News
Undergrad GPA: 3.23. It does look a bit problematic mostly As but some semesters with Fs and Cs.
Law School: near bottom of T14, above median but below 33%. Tax LLM as well from top program. Also above median but below 33%.
GRE: 338 (170 quant, 168 verbal.
GMAT: 760 (took it twice, both 760 and I am stuck)
Current Role: Tax Consultant
Current Sector: Big 4 tax
Work experience: A little over a year as Tax consultant at Big 4 and nothing else of note, even internships. I spent a lot of time traveling.
Short term goals: Banking/Management Consulting
Long term goals: Maybe move into PE or some such thing but bottom line is I want to drive deals
Extras:
Unsure how I can sell this but I think I need to explain the gap in age and work experience. I played poker professionally and very successfully for over a decade before going to law school to, in essence, reset my resume, before figuring out I rather be on the business side of things.
I've been hiding that part of the story and just relied on my graduation date from college and listed myself as class of (a year over 10 years after I started) so I look younger on the resume (and in person too) but I assume admission committees will want to know why it took me over a decade to finish college.
References: Can get from managers, colleagues, and professors.
Target Schools: Top schools that can realistically place me into top consulting, investment banking, and private equity firms.
