Can we assume that integers X and Y have the same value? [#permalink] New post   16 Jan 2021, 14:26
When the question in Quant part on GMAT exam starts as "If x and y are integers" , can we assume that they have the same value, or it is considered that they are different numbers?

Do not assume anything. Those two integers can be same or different.

can we assume that they have the same value, or it is considered that they are different numbers?

The only information you have is that they are integers. They can be same or different. Why would you want to assume they have same values? Any particular question that you struggled with that you want to share?

Unless it is explicitly mentioned in the question that if x and y are different integers :-

1. X and Y can have different values.
2. X and Y can have same values.

You have to consider all the possible scenarios when solving a question.
