I am not desperate for ISB, but my scores will be a deciding factor. I do need some top MBA schools.
Post-MBA goals are to join some organization. No plan for a start-up.
No, I haven't taken any different route but will consider this for sure.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Any idea of how can I figure out what's wrong and where I need to restructure my approach. When I practice questions in OG or some tutors, I am able to get 70-80 accuracy but GMAT questions were different especially SC. I am really not sure how to start with statergize step

You mentioned you've taken EGMAT? Write to their support. Get your ESR. They got back to me with a step by step plan that helped me immensely.

My biggest issue was to figure out the way forward. They give you that way forward. And, it works.

Couple of must haves -

ERROR LOG is a MUST.
Learning from correct answers is a MUST.
OG is not the prep that could help non native speakers unless you have a very strong understanding of the jargon they use in their explanations.

I'd put my bet on writing to EGMAT right away. If you can get an ESR, even better.

Hi Satish1313,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day did not go as well as hoped. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied in total? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) Have you used any other study materials besides the courses that you mentioned?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

It’s not really possible to answer your question without knowing how you’re planning to use the score. You can check the WAMC tool or take a look at the decision tracker filters from the admits in the previous years and identify if your score is good enough or not....

Thanks for responding, I am planning for some top MBA programs around the world. I have checked these tools and I will retake GMAT with a 750 target now. Can you please suggest to me something on how to improve my Verbal. I am a non-native speaker.

Hi,
I have studied for 5 to 6 months. Usually 20 hours a week
No nothing apart from the courses mentioned above.
I tool 1 mock each week, My Quant score was between 48 to 51 in each and verbal was between 32 to 42. RC was always a weak point for me but SC and CR were always above 65 % accuracy.

My Goal score is 730 + and i am planning to apply for colleges like INSEAD,LSB and ISB.

I will do PM you once i have my ESR out. I am waiting for my official scores now.

I have already taken the Mangoosh and E GMAT course and i know the rules for SC but the test didn't test anything as such. Please help.

Hi Satish, since your mind went completely blank on 5 SC questions, it's possible that you couldn't really figure out what those questions were testing; perhaps they were testing on the usual suspects (S-V agreement, modifiers, tenses, parallelism etc.), but you were in a bit of a disarray, to figure out.

Isn't that a possibility?

Yes this is very much possible. I wasn't able to figure out what they are testing and never got a point of elimination in those questions.

I’m sorry to hear how things went with your GMAT. Assuming that you took your official practice exams under realistic testing conditions, the results show that, on a good day, you are capable of scoring higher than V30. Thus, it’s quite possible that nerves, stress, tiredness, or a combination of all three negatively affected your test-day performance. However, it’s also possible that you have some lingering weaknesses that were exposed on test day. Although I’m unsure of how you prepared, it’s possible that, in your preparation, particularly in verbal, you did not really learn to do what you have to do in order to score high on the actual GMAT. Rather, you picked up on some patterns that were effective in getting you relatively high scores on practice tests. So, for you to hit your score goal, your preparation, particularly for verbal, probably needs to be more complete, meaning that you have to go through the various types of GMAT questions carefully to find your exact weaknesses, fill gaps in your knowledge, and strengthen your skills.

For verbal specifically, you have to become more skilled at clearly defining the differences between trap choices and correct answers. Otherwise, you will get stuck guessing between two choices or be surprised to find that you incorrectly answered questions that you thought you answered correctly. Becoming more skilled in this way takes carefully analyzing all of the answer choices to lots of verbal questions to develop an eye for the logical differences between the choices. In other words, you have to go beyond answering practice questions and reading explanations to doing deep analysis of questions to learn to see everything that is going on in them.

In order to follow the path described above, you may need some new quant and verbal materials, so take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses.
