A. it is to free a person who is (Correct)
B. is is freeing a person who is ('Freeing' is not parallel with 'to punish a person')
C. freeing a person who is (Same as B)
D. freeing(Same as B)
E. it is to free a ('Who is' missing in the second part of comparison)

As unjust to x as it is to y.


The way you have constructed ("As unjust to x as it is to y") indicates a loss of parallelism (there is no "it is" in the first part). However this is not the case. A is indeed the correct answer and one may check the validity of parallelism in the following way:

Note that both the "it"s in the sentence act as placeholders. The sentence can be effectively simplified in the following way:

it is as unjust to punish a person who is innocent as it is to free a person who is guilty
=
It To punish a person who is innocent is as unjust as it to free a person who is guilty is .
=
X (to punish...) is an unjust as Y (to free...).

Thus A is the correct answer.

As you mentioned that "there is no it is" in the first half of the sentence thus indicating a loss of parallelism. So how is (A) correct? not able to understand this one

Dear experts, please help me address option E here. I believe ellipsis can rightly be applied in this sentence without. having an ambiguity.
Option E: An unsaid code in the field of judiciary is that it is as unjust to punish a person who is innocent as it is to free a guilty.

Although option A is parallel, I do not understand what is missing in option E.

Option E also uses ' as' to mark comparison, 'it is' to replace 'unjust' and 'to free' infinitive similar to 'to punish'.
I think by using just a single word 'guilty' (which can represent a person), the sentence becomes more concise.

Please suggest.

Hello NischalSR,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, although the word "innocent" can be used as a noun - "an innocent" refers to a person who possesses the quality of innocence - the same is not true for the word "guilty"; we cannot use "a guilty" as a noun to refer to people who carry guilt.

Thus, the phrase "to free a guilty" is incoherent, making Option E incorrect from a meaning standpoint.
