Hi All,

It does not appear that anyone addressed aditya96166's question from a couple of months ago - but the issue there is confusing PERCENTILES with SCALED SCORES. The two numbers that aditya96166 posted are the Percentiles from that Exam (which would lead to an Overall Score right around a 550). IF those were Scaled Scores, then the Overall Score would clearly have been a lot higher.

:-)
Note that sometimes the same combination of Q and V may result into a different Total Score just like sometimes a different combination of Q and V can result into the same Total Score. For example Q49, V42 can be 750 and so can Q50, V41. The reason is that the Total Score and Sectional Raw Scores are calculated independently!

So we could say that this table is an approximation

It’s not an approximation, it’s just rounded. Your actual Q and V used to compute the composite don’t have to be whole numbers. For example:

Q = 50.0 and V = 42.0 would be Q50 V42 750
Q = 50.4 and V = 42.3 would be Q50 V42 760

So this table is NOT official. It was designed by PTK who spent his time researching and putting it together years ago :cool: :thumbsup: :inlove:
It does not perfectly match and has imperfections by all means but it is the most reliable and helpful tool we have and we are not afraid to use it :cool:

Is there anywhere I can read more about this?

I don’t know.... This is just something we have observed over the years. So rather than having a manual for the product, we have series of observations that we are basing it on. Can I like studying planets except in this case it’s scores 😂

bb V45+ is kinda like extraterrestrial life. We know it exists in some corner of this universe, but we don't have enough proof of it just yet! :lol: :lol:

I also read in a Manhattan blog that V43 is not possible or does not exist. Score move from V42 to V44.

I also have read some debriefs in the past with scores more than V45, but that’s very rare. But i could say it happened and we have seen it.

Are the official practice test percentiles and scores updated when those for the official exam are updated? My practice score seems to be inflated by 20 points. Per this thread there is some variability from the raw score to the final score. That could explain some things. Scored a Q51 V42 770. This would be a 750 on the real deal.

Hi StudentIn2022,

I have seen Q51V42 770s on the actual GMAT, so... congrats on the excellent practice test score. :)

As for the variation you noticed, you may want to go through this post.

Thank you for the link! Yes, I have seen some q51 v42 on here, but most are from several years ago. I assumed the scores at the top had shifted a bit over the years.

Thanks, I hope I can repeat on the real thing :)

Hello everyone,
I have a question. You are saying that there are 51 questions q & verbal. But some people say that there are 31 questions in quant. part. I am trying to understand why there is a difference. Could someone explain this?

Thank you!

Hi edanurtelci,

There are 31 questions in the quantitative section, and there are 36 questions in the verbal section. The minimum score in these sections is 6, and the maximum score is 51.
